This is one of my favourite subjects to paint. Whilst I realise it isn’t the cutest creature you’ll see in Africa, it is definitely one of the most exciting as far as art is concerned. Cool blues and warm oranges and reds, with lovely sky blue reflecting off the wet skin. Gorgeous!

This scene is from the Mara River in Kenya. There are many hippos in this mighty famous river and you don’t have to search too hard to find them.
