Hippopotamus

I will never tire of painting the wildlife of Africa and India. Scenes such as these hippos in the Mara River are so exciting and have everything I love to paint; light, drama, contrast, gorgeous textures, wet skin and so on. The image below shows a painting I displayed to much acclaim at a recent exhibition. It was sold immediately and then I was commissioned to do another! That second painting is also below, with me at the easel. Hippos are seemingly everywhere in Africa and if you go on safari you will definitely see them. These paintings depict the Mara River in Kenya but I’ve seen them from every camp I’ve stayed at.
